Burial Notes: Church of England Section in grave number 350. The grave is in the old section of the new cemetery at Onslow. Also in Bill Shanks grave is a grand son Jesse John Kay. They were buried 8 december 1989.
Bill worked on farms at Ballidu and Kalannie in his eary life and took up his own allotment on the farms at the age of 17. He continued this work untill the depression when the banks foreclosed on many of the farms.
Bill took up work on Morrie Crawcours farm at Ballidu after he married Nell and during world war 2 he was called up to work in the State Implements Factory assembling Bren Gun Carriers.
Bill and Nell moved to Chittering Valley from the farm at Ballidu in 1942 when he leased Kendalls Orchard for 2 years and had a produce run to the perth markets.
Bill bought the garage at Bullsbrook in 1944. Bill put a manager in the garage when his cousin Eddie Shanks came out from Scotland in 1947 and they headed north to the Lead Fields in the Pilbara and pegged a few shows. Ray went back up with them
in 1948 and all the family shifted to Onslow in 1950 where he bought another garage and mail run contract known as Northern Transport Company, which bill owned and operated with family help until he retired in 1975.
Employed: State Implements Factory assembling Bren Gun Carriers, During World War 2. He had a residence in 1942 in Chittering, , Western Australia, Australia. Bill leased Kendalls Orchard for 2 years and had a produce run to the Perth Markets. Magnus served in the South African War 1899-1901.
During WWI he served in the 208th Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force. In 1916 he transferred to the 31st with the rank of Captain and served in France until he resigned his commission, at the end of the war in 1918.
Magnus was the Manager of the bank at Lethbridge, Alberta.
He was the Vice President of British Canadian Mines and president of British Canadian Securities at 8 Bloor Street, East Toronto.
