• Notes

  birth mother was Janet Gilbert who later married William Prentice. His birth father was George Gilbert. The Marriage certificate is very hard to read, poor quality, and so there could be doubt over the age. He married at 7 Downfield Place, Edinburgh when he was 34 and his wife was 20. The age does not tally with the 1881 or1891 Census. Believe the age on the Marriage certificate should be 24 not 34. Witnesses were Eliza Forres and James Milne. By 1901 he is living with his wife, no children, at 16 Primrose Terrace, Edinburgh. When he was the informant on the death of his father in 1923, he resided at 3 Herriot Crescent, Edinburgh. On his Death Certificate his name was given as George Gilbert Kidd formerly George Gilbert. He was George Gilbert in 1881 Census.
