Photo of Araunah and Alfred (Nelson) and one of Araunah in India received from Iris in May 2005
An e-mail from Iris gives the following info:- Araunah was in the Royal West Kent Regiment (The Buffs). He was invalided out of the war in 1918 suffering from shell shock. He went to Guys Hospital for treatment. He was then sent to the British Legion village at Maidstone where he was trained as a cabinet maker. He worked as an independant and acquired a work shop in George Street, Chatham, where he set up his own business. The premises were shared with a Mr Tooze. When Araunah became to ill to continue in the shop he continued odd-jobing from home between bouts of bed rest. When Araunah was 28 - 29 he was working in Chatham Dockyard where he met Francis Cornford. Francis took Araunah home where he met Violet her daughter.
