Obtained a pilots licence and on the outbreak of WWII joined the RAF as a Fighter Reconnaissance Pilot, where he was wounded. After the war, in 1945, he contested the seat of West Derbyshire for the Conservative Party. In 1950 he became the Conservative MP for the seat of Bury St. Edmunds. He was a business man holding various Directorships. Director of Shop Investments Ltd. 8 Queen St., Mayfair London. Owner of Western Ground Rentals. He was also an executive with the London Evening Standard and the Manager of London Express News and Feature Services. He resided at Playford Hall near Ipswich, Suffolk, and at 28 Porchester St., London."
