    Kathleen was made a Member of the British Empire (MBE). There is an item written by her grandson, Doug Tremlett, in an "Internet" program called "Peoplescape" It reads as follows. "Kathleen Mary Aitken (nee Douglass) born one year before Federation, of good Scottish Presbyterian stock. She grew up near Bonnie Doon in a time when nearly everything you ate, wore or used you'd make yourself. The great energy she developed for survival drove her on through a life of generosity and selflessness. She dealt in good faith with her destiny. The world is a better place for her having visited. That is not why she is remembered here. It is for the flame that burned in her heart. It kept her young and warmed everyone she touched. She believed that the things she believed in would never change and at the same time she knew that nothing around you ever stays the same. She had a deep belief in the goodness and value of the ordinary man."
