In 1915 he was the best-man for Robert Blair.
Worked for the Post Office until he retired, in 1955 aged 60. Before he retired he was diagnosed with a brain tumour but it was benign and after an operation he went back to work in the Post Office.
To suplement his PO pension he took a part-time job, April to September, as custodian of the Cairpapple Hill Historic Site, with the Ministry of Works, until at age 65 he qualified for his state pension.
Six years later he had severe chest pains which was attributed to indigestion. In the morning it was no better and so a doctor was called. A heart attack was dignosed and he was rushed to hospital where he slipped away a few days later.
