    • As a child he had very limited schooling doing most of his school work by correspondence.

      Farmed all his life in western New South Wales battling drought and pest plagues.

      During WWII, in 1940, he was serving with the 8/8th Anti Aircraft Battery where he held the rank of Gun Specialist and he was a specialist in gas identification. By 1944 he served as a Private with the 2nd/24-9th Infantry Division on the island of Morotai.

      He was a champion shot and enjoyed his membership of the Ungarie Rifle Club.

      In 1955 his shooting team won the Sargard Shield when Mac was the top scorer
