Notes - Burke's Peerage gives his place of birth as Newcastle, NB. but the 1881 Census says he was born in Ontario.
Educated at Harkins Academy at Newcastle, NB
Magnus served in the South African War 1899-1901.
During WWI he served in the 208th Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force. In 1916 he transferred to the 31st with the rank of Captain and served in France until he resigned his commission, at the end of the war in 1918.
Magnus was the Manager of the bank at Lethbridge, Alberta.
He was the Vice President of British Canadian Mines and president of British Canadian Securities at 8 Bloor Street, East Toronto.
And his residence was at 50 Elm Avenue, Rosedale, Toronto.
