  They may or may not have married. When his daughter Mary was born she was registered as illegitimate. It is possible that Robert died very shortly after the birth of his daughter Mary in Jul 1888. During the 1891 Census there was only one Robert Smith meeting the age. This Robert was married, aged 24, a Shale Miner with a wife Jane aged 22. They also had 3 children.
