    • William was an Engineer and founder of an engineering firm in Wellington, NZ, William Cable & Son. His company built the first three, 8-ton locomotive engines. By means of various merging of firms the company, in 1977, became Cable Price Downer.
      He was chairman of the Wellington Harbour Board, in 1905, when the street that bears his name was laid out in Wellington

      William was cremated and his ashes place in a niche in the Old Chapel, Karori Cemetery, Wellington
