- His birth date was given as 12 Oct 1919 on his first enlistment in the Australian Military, on 9 Jul 1940. He said he was 20 when in fact he was only 17. Given Service Number VX36742, and enlisted at Royal Park, as a Private in the 2nd Training Battalion. The NOK was his father James Mathieson. His real age must have come to light for he was discharged 17 Sep 1940. Not to be denied as soon as he was old enough he enlisted on the 28 Mar 1942 in the RAAF This time he enlisted at Melbourne and was given Service Number 52589. After the end of WWII, on the 29th Jan 1946, Leading Aircraftman Mathieson was discharged.
