- Joined the Royal Australian Navy on 13 Jun 1940 at HMAS Lonsdale, VIC. Discharged 12 Jun 1967 at HMAS Lonsdale. Saw lots of active service on various ships in the Med, New Guinea. Became a Sergeant in the Navy Police. During his time in the Australian Navy he was known as Joe but when he came back to Tasmania he was known as Roy
He went back to Tasmania after terminating his engagement and went to work for the Safcol Fish Cannery as did his wife, until his retirement.. The resided at Gemalla Road, Margate, Tasmania.
His ashes were scattered on Storm Bay Tasmania in Aug 2001
