Notes - Elton joined the Australian Imperial Forces at Brunswick, VIC. as Pve. 3166, on 13th Jul 1915 when he was 23 Years and 4 months old. He was unmarried at that time. Two months later, on 29 Sep 1915 he was embarked, at Melbourne, on the RMS Osterley bound for Egypt. On 7th Jan 1916 he was taken on the strength of the 8th Bn at Tel el Kebir. He joined the 60th Bn, 15th Brigade, 5th Division, and embarked on the "Kinfauns Castle", on 18th Jun 1916, to join the BEF at Marseilles. One month later he was "missing in action". A court of enquiry, held on 4th Aug 1917, declared he was killed in action.
