  James was the informant of the death of his father Alexander Kidd By 1881 he was a dairyman with 500 acres, 100 of which were arable. He also had a shepherd and a dairymaid working and living with him at Easter Barelaw, Penicuik By 1891 he was back to being a farm servant and residing at Almond Hill Farm Servant Cottages. Informant on the death of Alexander gentleman in 1866 was his uncle James Kidd Informant on the death of Grace Kidd was James Kidd, father.
