When her mother died, in 1934, she gave up work to look after the house for her father. Her father died in 1937 and she was the informant on his death but she did not return to paid work instead worked from home with her dressmaking..
Jean's bridesmaid was her sister Bethia. Six years later she was able to return the favour when Bethia married
