• Notes

  After their first child, Margaret, was born and died a few days after the birth, they emigrated to Australia. Initially they resided at Cowra, NSW, later moving to Ungarie, NSW. Margaret was an accomplished pianist and her obituary says she held a D.Mus. Her obituary states, in part, "she bravely faced the challenge of life in a new land where she raised a large family many miles from medical aid and other amenities. Although virtually isolated from World affairs she inherited her family's interest in international matters and politics." The obituary writer falsely, claims an association with Robert Aitken, the astronomer and Director of the Lick Observatory, California. There is no connection. At the time of Margaret's death in the Western Suburbs Hospital she was residing with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr & Mrs Forsyth, at Rostherne Avenue, Croydon, NSW.
