  John was a witness at the wedding of his brother, Joseph, in 1903 It appears that he went to the USA as a single man. Returned to Scotland and got married. Returned to the US with his wife. At some later stage he and his wife returned to Scotland. It is possible that he had been in the USA previous to all this as in the 1925 Census of the USA he says he had been in the US for 9 years. The first record I can find is him arriving in New York, USA, on board the Carmania on Aug 27, 1919. He was aged 39 years and 2 months, single, printer. His nearest living relative from the country whence he came wa his brother Jas. Mundell of 13 Deanpark Street, Edinburgh. John's destination was to go to his uncle Wm. Mundell, 3286 Perry Avenue, Bronx, NY. It was John's intention to stay permanently in the US John had previously been in the USA in Sep 1914. The manifest also shows he was not a polygamist nor an anarchist. He was 5' 9 1/2", brown hair and grey eyes. At some stage he made his home at New Rochelle, USA, returning to Scotland some between 1919 and 1922. John was a 41 year old bachelor, residing at 13 Dean Park Street, Edinburgh, when he married Flora. They were married at the Masonic Hall, 19 Hill Street, Edinburgh. The witnesses were Augusta Hutchison and James Mundell. On Sep 10, 1922, he again enters the USA. This time on board the Columbia which sailed from Glasgow, and with him is his wife Flora.. He declares that he is returning home to Woodbury Street, New Rochelle, with his wife. He also has with him a $1000. A considerable lot of money. I think his entry in the 1925 Census is wrong when it says he had been in the USA for 9 years. Because in his declaration on the ships manifest he states he first went to the USA in 1919 and again in 1922. The 1925 Census shows John and Flora residing at 31 Cliff Street, New Rochelle. He is a printer aged 44 and Flora aged 38. The 1940 Census of the US shows John and his wife residing at New Rochelle where John is a newspaper printer, age 59. No children are mentioned. He died, aged 94, at 52 Duddingston Road, Edinburgh. Usual address was 21 Southfield Terrace, Edinburgh.
