  Did his apprenticeship as a Plater at Grangemouth Dockyard. Then did his National Service in the British Army, 1st btn Royal Scots. After completing his National Service he worked on the construction of the BP oil refinery before joing BP as a Boiler Maker. He took early retirement from BP in about 1992. Andrew was his brother Robert's best man in 1964.
