  During WWII he was an Aircraft Engineer stationed at Honeybourne in the south of England. It was in the NAFFI at Honeybourne he met and courted one of the NAFFI workers, Dorothy Stocks James and Dorothy settled in her hometown, where he worked in a nearby carpet mill
