    It is more than likely that Agnes Aitken had an illegitimate child before Feb 1857. In the church records of 1857 CH2/503 (Torphichen) V5, it states,
    "At Torphichen Manse 10th Feb 1857 compeared James Crawford" (Agnes's step-father) "craving baptism for Agnes Aitken's illegitimate child and offering to become the child's sponsor and guardian. The Session agreed to his request and the ordinance was accordingly administered."
